The dominant economic report of the past two weeks was the monthly Employment Situation Report which surpassed even the most optimistic of forecasts. Analysts expected new job creation figures to come in between 140,000 and 275,000, so the 314,000 figure posted came as a positive surprise. Also significant was the final Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figure of +3.9% for the third quarter of 2014.
